The Billionaire Heart The Billionaires Book 1 edition by Nancy Adams Literature Fiction eBooks
This book reads as if it was written by a twelve-year-old -- the simplistic characters, the unrealistic setting, the stilted dialogue. Katelynn, the daughter of a former US Senator -- has just gotten her Master's degree in political science. But she hates politics and doesn't want anything to do with it (why didn't she realize this at any point while getting her degree?). Instead of getting a job that draws on her advanced degree in any way, she moves back home and decides to apply for minimum wage jobs. She's hired at a local discount superstore as a manager trainee (apparently the company doesn't want managers to have any relevant experience) and, instead of being trained by another manager, Nate, the billionaire son of the CEO, comes to handle her training personally. Now, being a CEO requires a very specific set of skills that have little to do with running day-to-day operations of the company -- recruiting top talent, inspiring investors, maintaining investor returns, managing relationships with the board of directors, high level financial planning -- so why would a CEO who wanted his son to be the future CEO have him doing inventory reports, coaching tardy cashiers, and stocking shelves? Like so much of the novel, it seems like the author just doesn't get it.
Of course, Nate and Katelynn fall for each other. They don't have much chemistry. They frequently think about how attractive the other one is, but you never get a sense of any heat. Their connection has to be resolutely non-sexual because they're both committed to remaining virgins until marriage. This book wasn't listed as a Christian romance, so it was a bit frustrating to get this bait-and-switch.
It's a cliffhanger, so the book ends on a note of uncertainty. I'm not sure if the author is extremely naive or just trying to reach an audience that is, but the simplistic nature of this book and the lack of chemistry between the two main characters will make it unsatisfying to most adults.
Edit: Upon further consideration, I think this author's body of work may be some kind of social experiment. Her author bio is written like an obvious attempt to capture a certain demographic and as of today (10/27/15), a search of her author photo actually links to a stock photo tagged with -- I kid you not -- "normal woman." She loves Starbucks! And yoga! All we need is a picture of her crunching through fall leaves in her Uggs. I've read several of the author's books and I think this may be some sort of meta-project. If so, I like the joke!

What's it all about?
When Katelynn graduates with her Master’s Degree she realizes that the real world isn’t all it’s cracked up to be when it comes to a job. When she sees a new store in town is hiring she immediately goes to apply. Once she is hired and meets her trainee, Nathanael Simmons, the son of the companies owner, she knows things can’t get much better. This is the story of Katelynn and Nate and how they start their future.
The Best Parts
--------------------------------------
The Worst Parts
So I’m a horrible horrible person that has absolutely nothing good to say about this story. I thought when I started it that the way it was written would change, but no. About 90% of this story is told to the reader, and the way that it was told is so childish. I understand that Katelynn is 22, but you don’t need to write it like a 22 year old with a bunch of exclamation point after almost every sentence. I felt stupid for reading some of this. There is hardly any actual scenes where you see the characters do anything. It is quite a bore to read when something is written like that. Not to mention there is an entire chapters where Nate is training Katelynn and the entire time she is stating what Nate has trained her for each position in her new job. Spoiler alert, no one cares! We want the relationship, not the mechanics of what is happening. Also the relationship between Nate and Katelynn is laughable. His declaration to her and saying that he has loved her for weeks, and he having loved him, when nothing has happened, what?! How old is the guy even? He acts like he is also a teenager, but he’s not, he’s an adult. I had the same feeling when they confided in each other that they were both virgin’s, I’m totally fine with this being this way, but by all means the way they told each other I couldn’t take either of them seriously. That brings me to another point, the dialogue was so fake. People don’t talk like that, and everything felt so forced. One last thing - this needed to be proofread a few more times, lots of grammatical errors.
Final thoughts
I feel like this story could have been good if the author had taken the time to write the story and not just summarize it. I will not be reading any more to this series because I don’t care to see where this relationship goes. Oh and the cover for this book is one you should change; it is basically the polar opposite of what the story is about - I thought I was getting a hot steamy bad boy romance and what I got was a teeny bopper happily ever after story.
I found this author's writing style to be rather annoying. She uses lots of exclamation points to try to keep the reader interested, rather than just writing something interesting. The story is boring. There's really no other way to say it. I do give the author props for writing an "innocent" romance rather than focusing on heaving bosoms and copulating. I really wanted to like this book, but there's simply no story there. Two people meet and somehow are inexplicably in love… for no reason. There is no development of characters. We don't know WHY the hero of the story is such a great guy. We don't know WHY he falls for her or, frankly, why she is interested in him. We do know he's handsome. But come on… It's all very superficial and, again, boring. Even! With! All! Of! The! Random! Exclamation points!!
I was really surprised at this book not being as good as expected. I don't know what to say. I thought that it would be better by reading the excerpt. This is a story about two virgins, what a shocker. It could have been completed but they want to make more stories to get you to buy more books, don't fall for it. Just not interesting enough.
